Custom glass pool fencing and glass balustrades, made to measure in Ballarat.

Robson Glass designs, supplies and installs custom glass pool fencing and glass balustrades across Ballarat and regional Victoria. We use toughened safety glass and build to the current Australian Standards, and our sweet spot is the tricky jobs: stepped panels, sloping ground, stairs and garden beds.

Pool fencing glass and glass balustrades, done properly by a Ballarat local

Glass has become the go-to for pool fences and balustrades because it looks clean, does not block the view, and it lasts. The catch is that a swimming pool fence is a safety barrier first and a feature second, and a balustrade has a real job to do where there is a drop. Both need to be built to the current safety standards and installed properly.
That is where we come in. Robson Glass has been glazing Ballarat homes since 1909, and for the past 80 years from a shopfront you can still walk into today. We measure, supply and install glass pool safety fencing and glass balustrades across Ballarat and the surrounding district, and we are genuinely local, not a website pretending to be.
If your job is a straight, flat run, we can do that. Where our glazing matters even more is the awkward stuff a flat-pack kit was never made for: the sloping block, the stepped garden beds and the uneven surfaces.

The jobs a flat-pack kit was never made for

A kit is fine when the ground cooperates. Ballarat backyards often do not. Because we make the panels to suit the site, the fence or balustrade follows the ground neatly and still does its job.

Sloping ground

Panels stepped and cut to follow the fall of the block, with no awkward gaps left underneath.

Stepped garden beds

Fencing worked around raised beds, retaining walls and level changes so it stays compliant.

Curves and corners

Tight corners and curved runs planned panel by panel, rather than forced to fit a kit.

Level changes

Raked stair balustrades that match the pitch of the staircase and every landing along the way.

Swimming pool glass fencing

A glass pool safety fence keeps the pool area secure without walling off the view of the water or the yard. We build both fully frameless and semi-frameless fences using toughened safety glass, so you get a barrier that meets the current safety requirements and still looks the part.

What we do

  • Frameless glass pool fencing. Fixed with spigots or a base channel, so there are no posts breaking up the view.
  • Glass pool gates. A wide range of self-closing, self-latching hardware, set up to meet the current safety standards.
  • Custom panels for your site. Cut and stepped to suit sloping ground, garden beds, retaining walls and tricky corners.

Why homeowners choose glass

Toughened safety glass does not rust or rot like some other materials. It is easy to keep clean, and you can see your kids in the pool from the house. The whole point of the barrier is safety, and a see-through fence makes supervision easier, not harder.

Where we are different

Most glass pool fencing is sold as a standard kit for a flat, straight run. When there are steps, a slope, a garden bed or a level change to work around, a kit starts to look wrong and can be hard to make compliant. We make the panels to suit the site instead.

Glass balustrades for stairs, balconies and decks

A glass balustrade opens up a space. On a staircase it keeps the light and the view flowing instead of boxing the stairs in with solid rails. We design and install internal and external balustrades using toughened safety glass, built to suit the drop they are protecting.

What we do

  • Internal balustrades. Staircases, landings, mezzanines and voids, where you want a modern, open look inside the home.
  • Glass stair railings. Balustrades for stairs, including raked runs that follow the pitch of the staircase.
  • Outdoor balustrades and handrails. Balconies, decks and Juliet balconies, with glass handrails where you want them.
  • Frameless or post-supported. Standoff-fixed or post-supported, with or without a handrail on top.
Frameless, standoff-fixed and post-supported options, with or without a handrail on top, to suit the look you are after. Inside the home or out on the deck, the glass is matched to the job.
Built for the drop. The rules for a balustrade change with how far there is to fall, so a low deck and a first-floor void are not the same job. We check what your situation calls for, always building to the current Australian standard, using toughened safety glass rated for the job.

Why go custom instead of a flat-pack kit?

You can buy a pool fence or balustrade kit off the shelf, and for a simple, dead-straight, level run it can do the job. The trouble starts when your space is not simple.

Fine when the ground cooperates. Harder to make look right, and harder to keep compliant, the moment it does not.

Made to suit your site

Because we make the panels to suit your place, we get the finish and the safety right at the same time, rather than making the site fit the kit.

What affects the price of a glass pool fence or balustrade

Every job is different, so we give you a proper price after a free measure rather than a one-size number online. As a guide, here is what moves the cost up or down.
01

How much glass

The number and size of panels, and the total run length.
02

How straightforward the site is

A flat, straight run is simpler than stepped or sloping ground, curves, corners or garden beds to work around.
03

Fixing and hardware

Spigots, standoffs or channel, plus gates and self-closing latches on a pool fence.
04

Balustrade requirements

The drop a balustrade is protecting affects what it needs to meet, which affects the glass and the fixings.
05

Access and site conditions

How easy it is to get to and work on the area.
Tell us about the job over the phone and we can usually give you an estimate before we even come out. Then there is no call-out fee to measure up and give you a firm quote.

Glass pool fencing and balustrades across Ballarat and the region

Because we make glass panels and install pool fences to suit the site rather than sell a flat-pack kit, it is worth us coming out to the tricky blocks, the sloping yards and the rural properties a kit was never built for. That takes us across Ballarat and out to towns like Buninyong, Maryborough, Clunes and Ballan. Not certain we get to you? Ask when you call.

Your glass pool fencing and balustrade questions answered

Does a glass pool fence meet Victorian safety rules?

Yes, when it is designed and installed to suit your pool and the current requirements. Pool barrier rules in Victoria changed recently and the details can depend on your specific site. We build to the current Australian safety standards and set the gates and latches up correctly. When we come out to measure, we will check what your situation needs.

What glass do you use for pool fences and balustrades?

Toughened safety glass, made and installed to suit the job. For a balustrade, the right glass depends on the drop it is protecting, which is one of the things we check on site.

Can you do a fence or balustrade on sloping or stepped ground?

Yes, and this is exactly where we are at our best. We make the panels to follow your ground or your stairs, so the fence or balustrade fits the site neatly instead of leaving awkward gaps. This is the sort of job a standard flat-pack kit tends to struggle with.

How much does a glass pool fence or balustrade cost?

Every job is different, so we quote after a free measure. As a guide, the price comes down to how much glass, how tricky the site is, whether it is frameless or semi-frameless, and the hardware involved. Tell us about the job over the phone and we can usually give you an estimate.

How long does it take?

Made-to-measure glass has a lead time of around 2 to 3 weeks, then installation is usually quick. We will confirm the timing when we quote.
